Pizza Passion & The Great Depression


Everyone has one food, sweet or dessert that is their favorite, no holds barred red-light inducing eating experience. Mine (without any hesitation)…is pizza! Blame it on my Neapolitan roots, Italian family traditions, or just what I deem the “perfect food”.  Pizza has even managed to thrive in a slumping economy, as over 3 billion pizzas are consumed annually. A soothing slice of heaven that remains easy on my wallet.

Quick……. give me the first word you think of when someone says Vietnam.  I venture to say most answered war.  News flash - the war is over people.  Tragically the United States lost approximately 60,000 troops, the North Vietnamese army had 1.1 million casualties, and both sides incurred insurmountable injuries.  For most Americans in the early 60’s, the war put Vietnam on the map.  The country was thrust into our consciousness like it or not.  Seemingly overnight we were given a backstage pass to a culture full of intriguing people that post war became integrated into our very own landscape bringing with them centuries old traditions, values, beliefs, and cuisines.  Today Vietnamese is one of the healthiest cuisines in the world.
